Sometimes pictures on the wall get knocked into or they move when a nearby door slams and then they are crooked. This is one thing that shifts my o.c.d. into overdrive…I have to straighten it. I am an extremely visual person and it bothers me when artwork is crooked.
I hung a lot of great photographic canvases at my daughter’s school following an extensive renovation of the building a few years ago. In addition to them having the small bumpers at the back of the frame to help keep them from moving and protect the wall and using the proper weight picture hangers, I used a simple product to ensure that they would remain level. It’s the little, blue, gummy, reusable adhesive tack. Many companies like 3-M, Bostik, and Elmers manufacture this handy little product and often your local hardware store has its own brand.
The aforementioned school had another renovation project occur during which a lot of the art was removed from the walls so as not to damage it. Upon completion of the project, the art was re-hung by persons unknown along with the hanging of several new canvases. They were constantly crooked as the students create quite a rumble going down the hallways. The ones that I hung with the adhesive tack that had remained on the wall were still level. After adjusting the new canvases a few times while my daughter rolled her eyes, I finally just went across the street to the local hardware store and got myself some more of that magical blue gummy tack and affixed it to the back of all of the new canvases and pictures.
Oh yes, they’re straight now.
